Our Chef - Richard Wimmer

Richard was born in Brecon and joined the Groesffordd in July of 2008. He is an experienced chef with a proven track record in the preparation of quality food.

Richard's past experiences include his two years as a commis chef at Peterstone Court. There, he was fortunate to be able to develop his skills under the guidance of the head chef Richard Brooks ( chef to Prince Charles and Princess Diana ). It was during these years that Peterstone Court won the Best Welsh Hotel of the year award and the taste of Wales Competition.

Richard later spent over two years at Wentworth Golf Club where he..........

Although a local lad, Richard has even practiced his skills further afield. He has worked in France and even spent a ski season cooking at the ski resort of Valoirre-Galibier.

Maybe he was homesick or just realised that nowhere could beat the quality of life in and around the Brecon area. Richard returned to Seland Newydd, a French restaurant in Pwllgloyw.

Before moving to the Groesfordd, Richard spent many years ( ten in fact! ) at the Nant Ddu Lodge just north of Merthyr Tydfil. After just four years there, he was made head chef and another award followed. Yet another Best Welsh Hotel of the year award!

Finally, Richard has brought his skills to the Groesffordd.

After joining the Groesffordd, Richard was interviewed by a reporter from the Brecon & Radnor Express. During the interview, their reporter asked Richard to identify his speciality.

The reporter later quoted Richard as saying "I'm capable in all areas but I'd say that I specialise in fish and pastry".

With Richard's experiences to date, and possibly in so few years, many satisfied customers at the Groesffordd could only agree.
